About the Worker
“Life has changed around me, but my work remains constant.”
Civil Construction Worker | Since 1975 | Bengaluru
Journey of Hard Work
My name is Manjunath, and I was born and raised in Bengaluru, where life was simple and full of familiar faces. I grew up in a small home with my parents and two brothers. I studied only till the 8th standard, but my real education began early—through responsibility and work.
In 1975, I stepped into the world of civil construction. I still remember those early mornings when I walked beside my father to the worksite. He had years of experience, and I learned everything by watching his hands—steady, skilled, and dedicated. My mother stayed at home, taking care of our family, while my brothers continued their studies.
Even today, I live in Bengaluru, but my work takes me wherever construction calls. One day in one place, the next day somewhere else—wherever the site is, I go. My brothers also chose their own paths. One became a carpenter, and the other became a painter. In our own ways, we all stayed connected to the world of hard work and labour.
Life has tested me many times. A tobacco fire destroyed my home, leaving me with nothing but memories. I shifted to a rented house and tried to rebuild my life. But another painful chapter followed—my wife passed away. Since that day, I have continued this journey alone.
I do not know how to use Android phones or modern gadgets, but I manage life the best I can. My strength comes from routine, discipline, and the work I have done for decades.
Every morning at 9:00 AM, I begin my work. Brick by brick and stone by stone, I build for others. With just an hour’s break in between, I work until 5:30 PM, carrying forward the same dedication I started with many years ago.
As for the future, I don’t dream of big changes. I only wish to continue living the way I always have—simple, steady, and honest.
